Scholar Athlete Teams

At the end of each season, teams across New York State are recognized for not only their efforts on the playing surface but in the classroom as well.  Scholar-athlete teams are recognized if their overall team average is 90% or above for at least 75% of athletes on a given roster.  Student-athletes may also be recognized as an individual scholar-athlete if their personal average is 90% or above and will be awarded a pin for each season they meet this criteria.

With so many of our teams earning scholar-athlete team recognition, Wayland-Cohocton will once again be recognized by the New York State Public High School Athletic Association as a School of Excellence, one of the highest levels of recognition for high school sports in regards to academic achievement.  Well done and congratulations to our athletes and coaches!

LCAA Scholarship

Recipient: Titan Rocha

The Livingston County Athletic Association awards 4 male and 4 female senior student-athletes a plaque and monetary prize in the Spring in the form of a scholarship.  I am proud to say one of our own has been selected  based on the following criteria:

  • Participate in at least two sports for four years.

  • Treats others as they would like to be treated themselves.

  • Keeps things in perspective between family, school, and athletics.

  • Display leadership qualities and attend practices in an attempt to improve themselves and others.

  • Earned respect from their coaches, teammates, and opponents based on their actions both on and off the field.

As a part of the application process, applicants must submit an essay that summarizes what sports has meant to them during their high school career.  Here is a line from this individual’s essay:

“The beauty of athletics comes from the things you learn about yourself through hardship, as well as how you can suffer with others.  High school athletics has given me the courage to challenge my comfort zones in various disciplines making me a more personable and well-rounded individual.”

This appreciation for athletics and reflecting on the lessons constantly taught through experience is what high school sports is all about.  With that said, I am proud to announce that Titan Rocha is one of four male recipients of the LCAA Scholarship for the 2021-2022 school year.
