Good Evening,

Our Wayland-Cohocton Eagles have found their stride and we are beginning to be comfortable with the return to school and being back in our buildings and learning. It has been an exciting and busy few weeks. I wanted to update you on some efforts we are making to keep our children and staff safe and healthy.  We continue to require masking in the building and as COVID has not yet gone away and our quarantine numbers persist, these efforts will continue to be reinforced.

The district’s ultimate goal is to keep students in school. In an effort to reduce the number of quarantines, we will be tightening up our masking protocols. When instituting a mask break students will have to be at least 6 feet apart. Mask breaks will happen less frequently if the students are less than 6 feet apart. We will be brainstorming ideas in which 6ft. of distancing (possibly outside of the classroom) can be accomplished and still allow for instruction to provide for breaks. Students are expected to be properly masked (over the nose and mouth) when inside the building, unless they are eating, playing an instrument, singing in class or drinking or being provided with a break. When students are outside, they are not required to be masked. Currently our teachers have been making good use of the mild weather and moving their classes outside whenever it is possible and doesn’t interfere with instruction.

We ask that families, particularly for our younger students, provide the necessary clothing each day in order for their children to be comfortable both inside and outside. We encourage you to label clothing in order to return lost items quickly and efficiently. Appropriate footwear is important as students may be outside more frequently.

We will continue to work with our staff and student population to ensure we are masking appropriately and taking all of the necessary precautions. Our goal is to do our part to reduce the risk of transmitting illness and keeping our students and staff well and here to learn.

As always, please feel free to contact me with any questions at (585) 213- 4303 if you have any questions.

Sincerely,

Eileen Feinman

Superintendent of Schools
