Dear Wayland-Cohocton Families:

On August 27, using its authority, the NYSDOH issued an emergency regulation – Section 2.6 – that granted NYSDOH Commissioner Zucker the power to determine whether face coverings are required in schools, public transit, homeless shelters, correctional facilities, nursing homes, and health care settings. Using that authority, the Commissioner directed all persons in school buildings over the age of 2 to wear masks - https://coronavirus.health.ny.gov/system/files/documents/2021/08/2.61_determination_0.pdf.  Because this directive was issued under authority of an emergency regulation, it does have the force of law.

Taking all of the information into consideration, we have created our reopening plan for the safe return of our students, faculty and staff next week. When we return next week our top three goals are to remain open every day, to do so in a safe manner and to have it be as normal as possible for everyone. The Board of Education and Administration will do whatever we can within our abilities to make those things happen.

There will be additional changes and requirements that we will have to adjust to in the coming future, but we will take things one day at a time. We know that parts of this plan may disappoint some while at the same time affirm others. Please take some time and read the entire document.
