A part of the PLC-Live Institute being held at Wayland-Cohocton this week a special event has been planned for families.
Maria Nielsen shares how parents can be vital members of a school’s learning community. She discusses how a school works as a Professional Learning Community (PLC), how PLCs differ from traditional schools, and what that means for your child. Participants learn how teachers work in collaborative teams to ensure high learning levels for all students through a guaranteed and viable curriculum.
Parenting is always a balancing act. Acquire strategies for how to support a child’s learning without doing the work. Maria helps parents learn warning signs that a child is experiencing academic or social–emotional challenges—and how parents and the school can work collaboratively to overcome them.
In this session, parents:
- Celebrate the culture of schools that emphasizes high levels of learning for all students.
- Understand the importance of focusing on essential learning and how to monitor each student.
- Examine the role assessment plays in a child’s education and how teachers use data to provide additional time and support for intervention or extension of essential standards.
The Parents as Partners session on August 26 at 7 pm EST is available as a zoom link. The link is available to view individually from the comfort of your own home.
