Dear Wayland-Cohocton Families:
We continue to navigate an ever changing landscape as we inch closer to the opening of school. On August 5, 2021, Dr. Howard Zucker (New York State Department of Health Commissioner) issued the following statement:
“With the end of the state disaster emergency on June 25, 2021, school districts are reestablished as the controlling entity for schools. Schools and school districts should develop plans to open in-person in the fall as safely as possible, and I recommend following the guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and local health departments.”
As always, we will continue to prioritize the health and safety of all the District’s family members, and the preservation of in-person instruction during the 2021 – 22 school year. Here are a list of things that I can commit to at this point in time:
The District WILL NOT mandate COVID-19 vaccines for its students, staff, faculty or administration.
We will be open 5 days/week of in person instruction for all students.
Remote instruction will not be available during the 2021-2022 school year.
We will begin Fall Sports as planned next week.
The District will adhere to the CDC’s recommendation of a minimum of (3) feet of physical distancing within classrooms.
Transportation will be available for ALL PreK4 - 12 students requiring it. Face coverings are required for ALL individuals riding District transportation. This is congruent with current public transportation procedures. We will be providing pick-up times once bus runs have been established.
Masks are NOT required to be worn outdoors.
Breakfast and lunch will continue to be free for all students per the USDA program.
Indoor masking requirements have NOT been established yet and won’t be until we receive additional information and/or guidance. In the absence of guidance/requirements we will implement safety measures as sensibly and respectfully as possible, listening to all the diverse opinions on this topic. If you have additional questions/concerns please reach out to my office or any one of our school buildings.
Respectfully,
Eileen M. Feinman
Superintendent of Schools
