The following message was emailed to Wayland-Cohocton families this afternoon.
Dear Wayland-Cohocton Families:
The last few days have been a whirlwind of conflicting information. Please know, we too are as frustrated as the community. Last Friday, the NYS Governor communicated to the CDC that the state would no longer require masks in schools if the CDC did not direct otherwise. That letter created confusion in school communities across the state.
As of noon today (Monday, June 7, 2021), based on the most recent press conference with Governor Cuomo we are clarifying the masking procedures at WC.
The most current guidance states:
Students and staff are able to remove their masks when:
- Outside on school property during recess, a class experience, during physical education classes, athletic events, and end of the year events - physical distancing should continue to be implemented when practicable and appropriate.
- Inside our school classrooms when physically distant and/or behind barriers.
Student and staff will continue to wear their masks when:
- On our buses
- In our hallways
- At times when physical distancing and or barriers cannot be practically implemented while inside our school buildings.
Thank you,
Eileen Feinman,
Superintendent of Schools
