Below is an excerpt from the Superintendent's Message sent out on Sunday evening. There are parent support videos for Class DoJo and Google Classroom to assist families. There is also included some important aspects of the Full Remote Learning Plan in the event that WC has to go to a fully remote learning model due to COVID-19 developments. (These would be directed by the Steuben County Public Health Department.) The full plan can be found on the school's website at www.wccsk12.org at any building MENU page under COVID RESOURCES. The 100% Remote Learning plan is only being provided in advance of any necessity - not due to a planned closing at this point.
Parent Technology Support
WCCS Learning Management System used during our hybrid and/or remote instruction by students and teachers is ClassDoJo (K-3) and Google Classroom (4-12).
To assist our families with both of these systems we have created the following videos to help understand what your student(s) sees and how your student(s) is using them for their learning. After watching the videos, if you have any questions or need additional support please let your child’s teacher or building principal know.
Google Classroom (4-12) parent video
These videos can be found permanently on any building's MENU page under Family Learning & Wellness Resources.
Full Remote Learning Plan
In the event that students are unable to be physically present in school, the Wayland-Cohocton Central School District remains committed to providing quality, developmentally appropriate, instruction via online learning. To allow families time to successfully prepare, plan and have a long-term closure learning schedule for your child, please know the first two days of closure will be asynchronous learning (on demand). On demand learning can be accessed on students chromebooks with flexibility throughout the day.
For students in grades K-5
Online learning will follow the same schedule that they have right now in the hybrid model (what cohort they have been assigned to), except this learning will take place online at home.
Online learning will be synchronous (live on Google Meet) and asynchronous (on demand work to be submitted).
Class meetings will occur daily, attendance will be kept daily, small groups and direct instruction will occur for various subjects.
Students and families will have a schedule provided by the teacher.
Students will attend specials remotely according to their special schedule
Students in grades K-3 will be directed by teachers using ClassDoJo. Grade 4 and 5 students will be directed by teachers using Google Classroom.
Time online will vary based on the developmental age and the lesson.
Daily tasks, assignments and requirements will be posted at the beginning of each day, no later than 9am
The building will consider sending home print materials, project materials or preparing packets for pick up as required.
*** Please reach out to your child’s building principal if your family needs flexibility or assistance with navigating the 100% remote schedule listed above.
